Sunday Reflections

I have to tell you, sharing the pictures yesterday of how our facilities will look was a lot of FUN for me! I know that doesn’t sound real spiritual or significant but, trust me, that’s saying a lot! I am just so thankful that I didn’t have to present these exciting plans while wondering what everyone was thinking. It is so liberating when you have God’s approval and His clear Vision. In the second service I laughed so hard that I snorted. I bet that sounded really good in the microphone. You can only experience this kind of emotional bliss when you are sharing something exciting with your FAMILY. Thank you Washington Avenue.

Stories of GENEROSITY continue to bless me. I check the website (www.payitforward.cc) several times a day to see if anyone has posted something new. I read two more new ones last night and — WOW! God is doing something great. I love what one person said: “I will continue to do this in the future.” Folks, that is our primary motivation in doing this. That we would all get a taste of what it is like to bless others when God speaks to our hearts. Then we will constantly be looking for that next person we are supposed to help in some practical way. And I want you to know that when you give up something that wasn’t given to you to give away, the blessings will be much greater!!! Remember, Generosity is about managing what God has given us, not about waiting until we have more to be a blessing to others.

Even though our Series of messages on GENEROSITY will be concluding this coming Sunday (yes on Mother’s Day), I have confidence that acts of generosity will not cease. We will continue to pursue an intentional strategy to “Construct a Culture of Generosity” at Washington Avenue Church. This will be done on Sunday’s in our Main Event, through teaching in Small Groups, and we will provide one-on-one counseling for those who really need help getting their financial lives in order.

This coming weekend will once again be a dynamic opportunity to practice Generosity and Hospitality on our campus. On Saturday, May 10, we are hosting our first ever (hopefully 1st Annual) banquet for Single Moms (and some Grandmoms). It’s not too late to volunteer to help. Contact Lisa Freeman our Missions Coordinator if you can help (lisa@washingtonavenue.org). Mother’s Day will also be great as we talk about “Radical Generosity.” Can we think of anyone besides our Mothers who better exemplifies God-like Generosity? I am so looking forward to this coming weekend!
