“Spot On”

ONE PRAYER is totally ‘off the chain!’ Our challenge is to become the “Cultural Missionaries” that this world so desperately needs. In order to do that we have to educate ourselves on the language, customs, thought patterns, etc. of our culture. I think one of the reasons why the church has become “Irrelevant” in our culture is because we have “isolated” ourselves from mainstream life (as far as integrating faith in everyday life). While we are definitely called to be “separated” from what is considered normal life in this world, we cannot be isolated!

Jesus made it very clear that we are to be the “Salt of the earth.” (Matthew 5:13) This means we have to “season” our surroundings by living in the transforming power of God’s HOLY SPIRIT! Keeping the SALT in the shaker (i.e. being Christian only in the church house) is as futile as trying to season your french fries by sitting the shaker on top of them. The holes in the top of the salt shaker are designed to apply the salt in proportion. In the same way, we need to invest time in learning more about people so we will know how much SALT to apply. Get It?

I have been blessed this week by the comments I have heard from people who attended services on Sunday. I think many people are really getting their eyes opened about there only being ONE CHURCH! It seems like people who have been attending churches for years have never been told this. WOW! How the heart of God must grieve over the way His Body is divided up into so many different segments.

ONE PRAYER will continue at Washington Avenue this week. We are proud to be standing with the other 1,474 local churches to cry out with ONE voice to God — Make Us ONE! I expect there to be an amazing harvest of souls because of this unifying emphasis. This week we will be hearing a powerful, culturally relevant message by Pastor Ed Young, Jr. Trust me, his message will rock your world. It is SPOT ON; Off the chain; groovy; cool; riveting; timely; anointed; etc. Hopefully everyone can identify with at least one of these ‘cultural’ descriptions!
