“Little by Little”
When God wants us to get something He finds different ways to bring it to our attention. Four times in the past three weeks God has brought into my consciousness a verse that is found in Deuternonomy 7:22. It says: “The Lord your God will drive out those nations before you, little by little.” God explains to Moses that if He drove out all the inhabitants of the “Promised Land” at once the wild animals would move into the towns. This would be an even greater problem for God’s people. So, God intended for His people to progressively, “little by little,” to take occupancy of the land. As long as they were obedient to do what God told them, they could expect to gain blessings from God year after year.
I have to be honest about something. As one who lacks patience, this whole “little by little” stuff doesn’t excite me very much! As a matter of fact, there’s not too much excitement in “little by little!” One of the problems with a personality that is “result-driven” (that’s me) is fighting frustration, fear, and anger when things are not “progressing” rapidly enough. I constantly fight these tendencies. And, sometimes my frustration and fear “seep” out in my preaching. I never intend for this to happen but I know that it still does — especially when I let my personal “tank” run dry. (speaking of my personal walk with Jesus)
God is really pounding the principle of “little by little” into my heart and mind. So, looking at everything we are doing through the renewed perspective of God’s lens, my heart is lifted and I once again feel very fulfilled in this great ministry God has allowed me to serve in!! It is a privilege to come and fellowship with my brothers and sisters in Christ. And, it is an honor to meet so many new people who just keep coming each week. Will you join me in praying for many of these “New” people to become “Partners” with us in this ministry?
We have a team of 33 going to San Diego this coming Saturday for a week long mission journey. I am very excited about his opportunity to share in this experience with so many of our people who have never done anything like this before. (I will be saying more about the trip this week and blogging updates on our mission while we are in San Diego) I am expecting great things from God in our trip and in our church family in the coming weeks. I believe the Fall season is going to bring a manifestation of God’s presence and power like we have not seen in a long time. I am expecting God to move in people’s lives! Aren’t you hungry to see real “Life-Change” in people’s lives? I know I am!
Today was a great day of Worship, fellowship, and instruction at Washington Avenue. I must say that I am one of the luckiest Pastors on the planet! Praise God!!! Time for bed. Good night.
