Let the Mission Work Begin

Its 6:36am here in San Diego so the house has something right now that will not be around for long — QUIET! I think everyone is sleeping pretty good after a long day yesterday. By the way, whoever said it wouldn’t be hot in S.D. made a miscalculation! We had a worship service on a grassy, park area where thousands of people were relaxing and enjoying the beautiful day. Let me tell you, it got hot! When that hazy stuff moved out the sun was hot but felt very good.

It was a unique experience to sing praise songs and listen to the Word of God being preached right in the middle of people who were doing what we all do at the beach — just having fun. It was like we were all just doing our thing while others were busy doing their “thing.” It was a great “sanctuary” to worship our God (you know, the One who made everything that all the people were enjoying!) I think it was a great experience for our team. It was also the first time the Elevate team had done this.

We had a little bit of a problem with the San Diego Padres game. It seems that the authorities were not too interested in us providing free hot dogs for the people sitting “on the lawn” at the game. (I think that’s kind of like the Hill at another sports complex) By the time we arrived at the game it was already in the 3rd or 4th inning and the cheap seats were sold out. So, most of our team decided not to go in to the game. We walked around the city, took in some sights, ate some, drank a lot of cold drinks, and ate some. (by the way did you know that you can get “Full Throttle” from a machine that is like an Icee? That was good! I had a large. And, there’s a Starbucks literally everywhere you look. I had some of that too)

We finally ended up back in the community where Elevate church will be planted. It is called Torrey Hills and it is extremely plush. We went to a park where we cooked out and played some volleyball. Kevin Campbell also shared some more things with us about their plans for meeting so we can communicate this with the people we “touch” in our Mission work today. The hot dogs were good and they had watermelon. Everyone seemed to have a great time.

We will be doing a Prayer Scavenger Hunt today. It’s a cool idea. Since we don’t know where we are going, we will have to stop and ask people how to get to our destination. Each person we ask will be given a card about the Elevate project. If some people seem interested in learning more, we will have Elevate info. cards to get their pertinent information so the Elevate people can follow up once were are gone.

Pray for our team today as we go into our assigned areas to Prayer Walk and interact with some people. It is going to be an adventure for some who have never done anything like this before. Pray with us as we walk around the different areas where people by the thousands will be. Kevin shared last night that it is their goal that we make 3,000 touches this week (touches equal anyone who is given a water, an Elevate card, Engaged with the vision of starting a new church, etc.) JOIN us in praying for this God-sized goal! We will also be handing out waters at the park where we worshippe yesterday and passing out flyers to tell about the block party we are doing on Thursday.

Time to go get ready for the day. Hope things are going well in your world. I will share more later in the day.
