Blooming in Washington, D.C.
We hit Washington, D.C. at a busy time. The Cherry-Blossom festival was this weekend. The congestion on the Metro system and crowds at the Smithsonian museums made us appreciate the slower life of Dacusville, SC!! We are really enjoying our trip to Washington though. The weather has been great so far but that is supposed to change today. Things are beautiful here but can’t compare to the upstate of South Carolina! We miss everyone back home but are maximizing our time of rest and reconnection as a family.
I want to thank all the wonderful people at Washington Avenue Church who have “stepped up” to help our Lord’s church continue to DO MINISTRY in the midst of our trials. People still need to hear the Gospel preached and need to worship our Risen Savior! People are hurting from a plethora of life’s dilemmas. This is no time for our church to shrink back from being there for those whom God sends through our doors (or into our lives at any other place).
I want to thank some of the people who are “Stepping UP:” Many thanks go to Crystal Crocker who is working with our choir and the band to provide praise and worship for our gatherings. Many thanks go to Kala Morris and Ann Heatherly who simply DO WHATEVER IT TAKES to get the job done! Many of you met Steve Patton for the first time as he brought God’s Word in our services Sunday. Steve is a great man of God. He has pastored churches and is a very compassionate, gifted servant of the Lord. God has sent he and Gloria to our church family “for such a time as this.” I have been blessed by his friendship, prayers, and comrade spirit during our time of adjustment. You will be seeing and hearing more from Steve in the future at Washington Avenue!
I know every time that I thank people by name I leave some very important people out. I also thank our GMAs (Guest Ministry Assistants) who faithfully greet people each week to our services. And, we could not minister to moms and dads without our faithful staff of children’s ministers. Patti and her team do a wonderful job! Way to go brothers and sisters! I was able to enjoy our family time away knowing that Washington Avenue Church was well taken care of. By the way, if you attend Washington Avenue please know that our GMA and Children’s ministries are always in need of more “laborers.” See Todd Dillashaw to sign up to be a Greeter or Patti McCoy if you would like to work in our children’s ministries.
Guess what? This is Passion Week! Christians all over the world will meditate and worship the greatest event of ALL time. Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection continue to be the HOPE for all mankind! I trust this will be a great week of worship for you. Know that we will be ready for a great time of worship at Washington Avenue this Sunday! Invite your family, friends, and any other people God may put in your path this week. I have a message from God and our praise/worship is going to be anointed with “Resurrection Power!” SEE YOU SUNDAY!
